Memorial Day Weekend
While this weekend is an "end of the school year and ready for summer" celebration, for many it is a painful reminder of the sacrifices a loved one has made in service to our great country. As John F. Kennedy said, "as we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest form of appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them." So, as we go about our weekend, let's remember to speak kindly to each other, be generous with forgiveness and grateful for our freedoms.
Here are some events this weekend that will inspire service, patriotism and honor for our heroes...
Memorial Day Flags
Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery
Friday, May 25th, 5-7pm
One of the most recognized and time honored traditions at cemeteries across the nation this weekend, is the placement of flags at the tombstones of military service members. There is an opportunity to do that right here in SA, too. Register hereto join a group of volunteers that will be meeting Friday evening at the Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery to place over 1,000 flags. Help will also be needed Tuesday morning to remove flags. There is also a Memorial Day Ceremony on Monday May 28th at 9:30am. Such a great way to honor our heroes with acts of service.
San Antonio Symphony presents: Patriotic Pop
Tobin Center Friday & Saturday
Music always evokes such strong and passionate emotions, and there will certainly be no shortage of patriotism at the Tobin Center on Friday and Saturday. The San Antonio Symphony will be performing Patriotic Pop, a tribute to our nation's military! For more information on tickets, click here.
Wear Blue to Remember

One of the anchor communities is located right here in SA and will be hosting a Memorial Day Run on Monday. For more information about the run on Monday and the weekly Saturday meet ups contact firstname.lastname@example.org. The event begins with a "Circle of Remembrance" where the names of the fallen service members are spoken aloud. Then you commit yourself to purposeful miles to run or walk. As their website says, "By setting aside a small portion of our morning, we show our gratitude and remembrance for the courage, heroism, and sacrifice of the men and women who have given all." This event is open to anyone and everyone, you are invited to share the stories of your loved ones! Click on the picture for more information and to learn how to dedicate your miles.
