Vacation Or Staycation
Spring is here...it's time to decide what to do for the summer. Will it be a vacation or a staycation?
This article by Gwen McClure featured in "Travel +Leisure" suggests we consider "Get away from it all without getting away, at all." The prediction is that this year is the year for "self-care staycations." The purpose of these staycations would be doing things that bring you joy, calm your mind, leave your feeling refreshed and better able to handle everyday stress.
Pinterest contributor Larkin Brown, suggests the following considerations (in bold):
Home or Away?
Will you stay at home? Or book local accommodations?
In my home town of San Antonio, a stay downtown, in the hill country, Corpus Christi, Wimberly, Fredericksburg, Austin, or other neighboring town is always a treat. Staying home, with no agenda is relaxing and stress-free.
Staycations should be relaxing. That means avoiding work and everyday obligations as much as possible.
See Something New
My husband and I were pleasantly surprised, last year, when we stayed home and explored the local museums.
The McNay Art Museum was so amazing, with pieces from famous artists, beautiful architecture, and grounds
The Witte Museum has beautiful and educational exhibits
We are blessed to have five missions in San Antonio, which are museums in themselves
The Japanese Tea Gardens, Sunken Gardens, Sea World, etc.
There is plenty to keep one busy during a staycation in San Antonio.
Try new places and new things. Get to know your town.
Catch Up On Sleep
Enough said, don't we all want to get some uninterrupted sleep with no alarm clock waking us?
Get outdoors. Take a hike, tube the river, swim in a lake, go to the local community swimming pool. If you have a swimming pool and/or outdoor kitchen, spend time together there.
Plan to Be Pampered
Read a book, take in some movies, binge on Netflix or Hulu, book a massage, pedicure, yoga class, or other relaxing activity.
Bring Home a Souvenir
"Give yourself something that will remind you to take a deep breath and take care of yourself..."
A staycation is a wonderful way to make memories and appreciate the feeling of being at home together without the obligations of work and other things that keep you from relaxing and enjoying time with loved ones.
Traveling is wonderful, but can be quite stressful. Travel these days seem to take entire days coming and going. Destinations maybe crowded. Resorts are costly. It can be exhausting, when visiting new places and scheduling so many activities in your itinerary that you're exhausted when you get home. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE traveling and have had the opportunity of going to some wonderful places in the world. But, the staycation we took last year, was refreshing, relaxing, and enlightening.
So what are your summer plans? Vacation or Staycation?
